There is something that has been in my heart for a couple days now-- its something that many of us say we are -- but at the same time, are we really?? That is being ACCOUNTABLE!!
The word accountable means to be responsible for someone or for some action.
Think about it!! Many of us can say that we are accountable to our jobs, to pay our bills, to provide for our homes. Thats easy!! Those are all responsibilities. If we don't go to work, we get fired-- which means we don't get paid-- which means we don't pay our bills-- which means we don't provide for our homes.
But are we THAT accountable when it comes to our friends and families?? I am now talking about a different type of accountability!! Its about relationships-- covenant relationships!! When you begin to notice that someone (whether it is a friend, a family member, a coworker) is all of a sudden acting different, maybe they have distanced themselves, maybe you are noticing that their acting a little funny, maybe their walk with God has slowly started to change, their Faith has weakened... You KNOW that something is different-- what do you do??
Its very easy when things are great!! You call, you text, you hang out, you spend time together, share things-- life is wonderful!! But how about when things are not so great?? Do you still call, text, show up at their house, and go after them?? Or do you allow time to pass by without doing anything-- allowing that relationship to get cold and fade away??
This year, I want to encourage you to be accountable. Extend yourself!! Be accountable to your families, to your friends, to your brothers and sisters. In the good and in the bad!! Be a helping hand!! Be that person who will listen or even that person that with God's grace will speak the truth in love. Maybe that person is going through a situation in their life that you may not even know about!! When you see them down, help them up, give them a word of encouragement!! You never know how GOD can use you to minister to that person with a simple hug, word, call, text... I encourage you to do all that you can do-- chase after them if you have to!! What if one day its you in that situation??
Lord I pray that you give us the wisdom and the knowledge to be accountable to one another. Father, that you may give us the discernment to know when our brother or our sister is down so that we may be that life line to help them back up. Lord, I pray that you give us the words to say that will uplift and encourage, words that will penetrate their hearts and minister to them!!
In Jesus name, AMEN!!
Great job.. I think its a relevant word for many of us.. Pastor
